CAPITAL PARK CIPP Pipeline Rehabilitation Project

A CASE STUDY IN TRENCHLESS EFFICIENCY

Capital Park is an older, established suburb of Pretoria, South Africa, located north of Church Square and behind the Pretoria National Zoo. It is known for its historical charm, with many of its cottages reflecting an older architectural style. The suburb is bordered by the Witwatersberge to the south and the Apies River to the west.

THE CHALLENGE

In Capital Park, the local municipality faced a critical need to rehabilitate over 700 meters of aging DN150 midblock pipelines. The traditional approach of open-trench replacement would have caused massive disruption to residents, businesses, and traffic. Recognising this, the municipality allocated funds for a less invasive and more efficient solution.

THE SOLUTION: A PHASED, TRENCHLESS APPROACH

Orsco (Pty) Ltd was contracted for the project, and they deployed the NuFlow patented Pull-in-Place Felt and Epoxy system to provide a durable, long-term solution. This innovative, trenchless method allowed Orsco to rehabilitate the pipes from just 2 access points, eliminating the need to excavate the entire length of the lines.

The project was strategically broken down into three phases, with each phase covering approximately 250 meters. This approach enabled Orsco to manage the project with precision and efficiency.

THE OUTCOME

Despite the challenges of working in midblock areas, Orsco rose to the occasion, successfully completing each phase in just one week. In a total of three weeks, the entire 700-meter pipeline network was fully rehabilitated.

The seamless, jointless liners created a new pipe within the old, restoring the pipeline’s structural integrity and functionality without any major disruption to the Capital Park community. This successful collaboration not only delivered a high-quality, long-lasting solution but also demonstrated the superior efficiency and minimal impact of trenchless pipe rehabilitation.
