Location: Kempton Park, South Africa
System: 600mm Diepsloot Pipeline supplying water for cooling
Challenge:
Kelvin Power Station management required precise mapping of the Diepsloot Pipeline route before nearby development began, to prevent potential damage and disruption to water supply — a risk that could affect power generation and strain the national grid.
Solution:
Using the Sewerin UtiliTrac R130 and G100 signal generator, Orsco technicians traced and marked the exact route of the underground pipeline from the power station to the adjacent Gautrain railway line.
The G100 energizes the pipeline with a frequency that the UtiliTrac R130 detects, providing two- and three-dimensional visuals and accurate depth readings. This ensured that future excavation work could proceed safely without risk to critical infrastructure.
